  • Duplicate Content Checker WordPress Plugin: How does it work?

It takes a defined number of phrases (strings of words) out of your content and sends an exact-match-query to Google. All you need to do is press a button.

If duplicate content should be found, a message will appear, together with a link to the Google search results page. This way you can verify and dig deeper into the findings.

You can set the number of phrases and words per string that are performed per query. This can be set globally or on a per-query base.

  • Duplicate Content Checker WordPress Plugin: Recommended workflow, Best Practice

We recommend to check all posts and comments for duplicates before publishing them. In fact that’s exactly what editors have always done, isn’t it? This can easily be achieved with the following workflow:

    1. Assign external authors to the userrole “Contributor”. The Contributor role (see wp-admin > Users > Edit User > Role) is perfect because all of their posts have to be reviewed by Administrators or Editors. Contributors can not publish content on their own. Once a post is submitted, it will be held as “Pending Review” until you publish it. Perform the Duplicate Content Check as part of your post review.

    2. Select “An administrator must always approve the comment” for comments. Once new comments are queued, check them exactly the same way. That’s it!

    Important:

The less words you submit per string (phrase), the more results will appear. We get the best results with 5-7 word queries. Don’t search for less words as this makes no sence and leads to lots of irrelevant findings.

If you check short texts with numerous queries, the plugin may not be able to take the selected number of strings out of your post or comment as it simply is too short for that. We get the best results with a maximum of 3 phrases per query.

After successful installation, you’ll find the plugins’ tab just below your post editor. That’s the Duplicate Content Checker tab. You could also change phrases and words here, but all it needs to perform a check is – click “Check”.

Once the Duplicate Content Checker plugin has discovered duplicated, the red “duplicate found” message is clickable. The link leads to the corresponding Google results page.

Now it’s your turn to dig deeper into the findings and check if it’s really copied content or just an accidental result.

  • Jay WordPress Theme: How do I use the portfolio?

The Portfolio is set up by blog posts. This means you can easily add an item by creating a blog post.

But how do I make sure it is in the right column of the portfolios?
You ensure that by attaching the post to a certain category. Choose the category in the right side of the WYSIWYG editor.

In the theme Demo and the demo content you get with the downloaded theme you see these Categories for the portfolio:

    Portfolio1Row1
    Portfolio1Row2
    Portfolio1Row3
    Portfolio1Row4
    Portfolio2Line1
    Portfolio2Line2
    Portfolio2Line3
    Cases

The categories are self explanatory, so every blog post you categorize as “Portfolio1Row1″ will be displayed in the first portfolio (vertical carousel), first row (In the Demo, this is the “Portfolio Websites” row. Adding a blog post to the category “Portfolio2Line2″ makes sure your item appears in the horizontal scrolling carousel in the second line. (In the Demo, this is the “Beauty Shoots” line.)
The Cases category only makes sure your content is organized, it does not automatically attach posts to the portfolio “cases” part. But in the theme options panel you can define four cases and link to certain blog posts, so once you click on the title of the case you get to the according blog post.

How do I get this link? Create a blog post and get the URL from the part right above the WYSIWYG editor where it says: Permalink: yourblog.com/yoursite, and copy paste this URL to the textfield for the cases link in the theme options panel.

The image carousel scroller thumbnails are featured images of blog posts. Attach a featured image to the post and you will find the cropped version of the image in the scroller.

Since the portfolio items are blog posts pulled out of categories, you will get to the single blog post view once you click on an image thumbnail in the image scroller. You can then add descriptions to your items.

My image in the single blog post view is cropped, I don’t want that.
The reason for this is the automatic crop that happens once you create a “normal” blog post. And because the portfolio items are blog posts as well you have the cropped image as well in the portfolio. You can easily disable this image by hitting the checkbox in the theme options panel > Content Tab > Deactivate Auto-Thumbnail on single posts.

You can then insert your desired images via the WYSIWYG editor manually.
